Community Garden
Adjacent to our church on Main Street is a place of tranquility, our Community Garden. Eight years ago, what is now the garden was an unsightly sandlot. It had been the playground of the church's former preschool. A group of dedicated and inspired FBCM members created the Garden Committee and started planning and fundraising. With the help of a landscape architect, a garden layout was drawn. After many literal concrete bumps in the ground (the foundation of a former structure) and hours and hours of labor, the Community Garden began to blossom.
Today, the Community Garden has benches, a picnic table, plantings, and a beautiful labyrinth for visitors to walk. In 2021, the Moorestown Improvement Association donated a new legacy bench. This bench joined another garden bench that a church family donated in memory of beloved church member, Sherman Greene. Everyone is invited to enjoy the Community Garden.
The Community Garden Committee is always looking for new members and volunteers. No gardening experience is needed! We have 2 "work days" a year, Spring and Fall, for garden upkeep, and shared upkeep during the growing season. We also hold a fall MUM sale (going on now!) to raise funds for garden maintenance. If you are interested in volunteering, please email FBCMoorestown@gmail.com with "Community Garden" in the subject line. The Community Garden is for EVERYONE and we welcome you to experience its peace and tranquility.
Community Garden Mural
In 2022, the Garden Committee had an idea to paint a mural on the exterior of the Church's annex that faces the Community Garden. After receiving the go-ahead from the Department of Community Development, the Garden Committee contacted local artist Ryan Casinelli. Their vision was for the mural to reflect the garden's quiet space. The Committee expressed to Ryan what they wanted, and he came up with the design. After months of sanding, power washing, and chipping away the old paint, the wall was ready to be painted. The flowers in the mural represent the flowers of the garden, along with two bees and a dark green background that brings everything to life. In the top right corner is a quote from Dante Alighieri that reads, "Nature is the art of God". After completing the mural, Ryan said "I hope that people can look at the mural and get their heads out of their phones, stop going on the internet, and just enjoy nature and the life God has given us". On 8/12/23, the Garden Committee hosted a mural dedication.
